What does it mean to encourage someone? To be encouraged?
I looked it up and found that, in the Bible, encouragement means to inspire hope, build strength and call someone to stand firm. It's more than a "pep talk."
As we grow in following Jesus, the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23) develops in our lives as we use our words to build each other up, to comfort people when they are sad or hurting, to help the weak and spur one another on to do good things, and even forgiving people for past mistakes.
First Thessalonians 5:11 says "Encourage one another and build each other up."
